Road Trip 2024

Got it running

Finally got the new engine running. I lucked out and was able to buy a brand new front timing cover and oil pump courtesy of Mike from Britanica restorations. The part has been obsolete for 10 years but he happened to have one laying around his shop for 12 years never been used. That was

New engine

got a new engine took 3 months to come in and 5 hours to install. everything lined up well with the tranny. Really happy, also got the brakes finished. replaced the pistons and dust seals.All new lines as well.

sunroofs, steering,brakes

its been a while since I updated, but I’ve been busy removing sunroofs because they always leaked. The steering box leaked as well so I replaced all the seals in that. Also replacing all the seals and pistons in the break calipers.

Frame is ready

sanded and painted the frame, put on a 2 inch lift with new shocks and replaced the seals in the transfer case. Also a new filter and seal in the transmission.

Body off the frame

Now that the body’s removed I have access to the engine and frame. Frame looks good, just some surface rust.

Body work finished

Pretty much done with the bodywork. All that’s left is some bond and undercoating. Next step is to get the body off the frame.

Discovery 1 rebuild

Hey everybody, started tearing the rover apart this week. Its got a lot of rust and leaks so I figured I’d address it before it gets out of hand. I’ll try to post updates once a week. I’m thinking this is a two year project.

Head gaskets for the Rover

Hit 195,000 miles and the head gaskets went. It was my first time doing them but it wasn’t bad. I spent a little extra time and cleaned the valves and replaced the seals. Its running great. Hopefully that’ll be it for a while.

Ice fishing shanty

Made an ice shanty out of some old cross country skis, plywood, 1/2 inch conduit and some canvas I cut and sewed using my moms sewing machine. Looking forward to winter out on Lake Erie.

Watkins Glen

Spent Labor Day weekend with the Finger lakes BMW club in Watkins Glen. Rode 800 miles in great weather. Did a lap around Seneca Lake and then down to Corning to visit the glass museum. The club did a great job organizing and I met a lot of nice people. Hope to do it again

Stucco repair project

My grandfather built the house 86 years ago. The wood and stucco were in pretty bad shape and due for an upgrade. It took nine weeks but I’m happy with the way it turned out.

96 Land Rover

Ive had my rover for just over a year. I got it cheap and I’m in the process of fixing it up a little bit at a time. So far I’ve replaced the exhaust & muffler as well as the oxygen sensors. I’ve repainted it as you can see from the pictures. Replaced the stereo

Shy-ann R.I.P

I’ve had my site for a couple of years but i’ve never blogged about anything. So it’s kinda sad that the first thing I’m posting about is the passing of our dog Shy-ann. We got her 15 and a half years ago for Bellas 6th birthday. She was already a year and a half old
