What a way to start off 2024. Dad passed away early January and I headed down to Florida to pay my respects and help out my mom a bit. It was good seeing her and spending time with my brothers. Then I drove along the gulf coast out to Big Bend National park. Spent a few days there doing some off roading and hiking down to the Rio Grande. What a big beautiful place. Then I headed up to Marfa TX checked out the art scene. Then up to Carlsbad Canyons and hike around the caves. The next stop was Roswell NM where I spent the night hoping to see some aliens (no luck). The next day I drove up to Santa Fe and spent the day walking around checking out the city. There’s a lot of shopping but it all looks the same and there’s nothing I need. My last stop was in Castle Rock Co to visit my brother and his family. Had a great time catching up and visited the Cheyanne Mountain Zoo and downtown Denver. Then the long drive home. 5300 miles round trip but the weather was great and the traffic was light so I would say the whole thing was a success.
